The Israeli occupation forces stand out for their deliberate and illegal targeting of media workers.
On Wednesday, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) published a special report showing that more journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 than in any other year since 1992.

“At least 104 out of 129 journalists and media workers were killed amid conflicts in 2025. While the number of journalists killed in Ukraine and Sudan increased, the majority were Palestinians killed by Israel,” the CPJ report highlighted.
“This is the second consecutive year-on-year record for press deaths. Israel was responsible for two-thirds of all press killings in both 2025 and 2024,” it added.
“More than 60% of the 86 members of the press killed by Israeli fire in 2025 were Palestinians reporting from Gaza, where human rights groups and United Nations experts agree a genocide is taking place,” the CPJ report pointed out.
The Committee emphasized that, despite the international notoriety of these killings, very few transparent investigations have been conducted into cases of targeted killings, and no one has been held accountable in any of them.
“While reporting on war is inherently dangerous, Israel has shifted the paradigm in its deliberate and unlawful targeting of journalists,” the committee denounced, warning that the total number of press workers killed by Israeli occupation forces could be much higher given the lack of access to verify all possible cases of targeted killings.
“Amid the extreme constraints imposed on Gaza, including a ban on independent foreign press access, destroyed communications infrastructure, mass displacement, and widespread loss of life, it is difficult to investigate the circumstances of each death.”
“With much contemporaneous evidence now destroyed, the true number of Palestinian journalists in Gaza who were deliberately targeted by Israel may never be known,” the CPJ report concluded.
